Gary L. Larson, 85, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Gary was born February 24, 1934, in Bucyrus, ND, the son of Clayton and Tomine “Minnie” (Thorson) Larson. He was raised in Bucyrus, where he also graduated from high school. After high school he moved to California, where he lived for about a year before joining the U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force he was stationed in Amarillo, TX, where he taught jet engine mechanics. While in Amarillo he married Donna Ronning on October 1, 1955. After Gary completed his military service, he and Donna moved to Grand Forks, where he attended and graduated from UND. He spent his entire career at Minnkota Power Cooperative in Grand Forks, starting in the accounting department and then moving on to manage the data processing department.
Gary was a multitalented man and could fix just about anything. His hobbies included restoring antique tractors, painting, woodworking, and carving beautiful songbirds, but his greatest talent was that of family man. His family always came first, and they enjoyed many camping and fishing trips together.
Gary is survived by his wife Donna, along with a daughter, Colette (Russ) Weedon, Hiram, GA; son, Michael (Karen) Larson, St. Louis Park, MN; grandchildren, Chris Howell, Julianna Weedon, and Samuel Larson; great-grandchildren, Danny Howell and Michael Howell; brothers, Duane (Kay) Larson, Dayton, NV, and Loren (Lynn) Larson, San Francisco, CA; sister, Jean (Larry) Tang, Salem, OR.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2019, at United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
