Floyd Bye

Floyd Stanley Bye passed away at home on October 26, 2020 after a courageous battle with COPD and lung cancer.  Floyd was born February 12, 1935 in East Grand Forks, MN to Albert and Freida Bye. He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High school in 1953 where he was an accomplished athlete in Football and Track.  After high school he joined the military and served in the Korean Conflict.

In 1967 he married his wife of 54 years, Marie Behm in Grand Forks, ND where they raised six children.  Floyd was a board member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and most recently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  He was a man of faith, firm beliefs, and convictions. Although Floyd lived a modest life, when surrounded by family,  he'd say he was the richest man in the world.

Floyd loved telling stories, playing golf, bow hunting, splitting wood, bike riding, going to church, and watching sports. Mostly, He held dear the times he spent with his children and grandchildren.

His career spanned 40 years with both the East Grand Forks and Grand Forks Police Departments.  He was awarded the purple heart in 1973 when he was wounded in the line of duty.  Floyd also attended the FBI National Academy where he first learned about forensics, crime scene photography and became an excellent marksman.  Floyd was a fair police officer who cared about people. He was a talented photographer and started his own business, Bye’s Treasured Photos, taking wedding and family photos on the weekends.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Marie, along with their children, Kevin Bye, Greenwood, MO, Tammy Tenenblatt Troutwine (Duane), Tampa, FL, Lynn Bye, East Grand Forks, MN, Kelly Greenlees(Dale), Apple Valley, MN, Jeff Bye, Grand Forks, ND, Jill Perkins (Jeff), Detroit Lakes, MN.  Grandsons, Michael Tenenblatt, Matt Bye, Adam Bye, Lucas Bye, Jacob Greenlees, Sam Bye, Nate Bye, Clay Perkins, Granddaughters, Jennifer Steptoe, Stephanie Kunze, Anaka Froelich, Dacotah Colosimo, Taylor Bye, Jenna Greenlees, Jessica Greenlees, Rachael Perkins  and 16 great grandchildren, brother Curt(Jean) Bye, Polo, MO, Brother in law, Bill Behm, Sister in laws, June Bye, Loraine Abbott, Verdell Smith and Eunice (John) Novick along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Kathy (Chase), infant son, brother Albert Bye, Brother in laws, Donald Behm, Ervin Behm, Bob Behm, Virgil Behm, Sister in laws, Elenore Broten, Jannet Siudyla, Elaine Gemmil, Delores Krogen, Irene Hougan, Ione Jacobson, son-in law, Dale Greenlees,  grandson Christopher Tenenblatt,

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 10, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Military and Police Honor Guard dedication will be accessed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials.
