Fern M. Hofstad

Fern M. Hofstad, 83, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Fern Marie Shelp was born March 28, 1939 in Maida, ND, the daughter of Theodore and Isabel (Fischer) Shelp. She was raised and educated in Langdon,ND and graduated from high school there. Fern moved to Grand Forks where she worked as a waitress at several places before working for the Bronze Boot for many years. She later worked at J.R. Simplot until the time of her retirement. Fern enjoyed playing cards, bingo, chatting, and most importantly, her grandchildren. She was a grandmother to all with a big heart. Survivors include her sons, Richard (Lisa), Grand Forks, and Patrick (Connie), Grand Forks; 8 grandchildren, many others that she considered grandchildren, and all that loved her. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julian Hofstad; and sibling, Joyce Moran. A small family gathering will take place 2:00 PM Friday, June 24, 2022 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Cavalier County, North Dakota
