Evelyn Kennedy

July 17, 1924 — February 6, 2021

Evelyn J. Kennedy, 96, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021, at Luther Memorial Nursing Home in Mayville, ND. Evelyn was born 07/17/1924 to Walter and Eva (Brunelle) Junior in Chazy, New York, the 3rd of 6 children. Evelyn graduated from St. John’s Academy, in Plattsburgh NY, and later received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education from the University of New York at Plattsburgh. She began her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher, and later taught multiple grades in a one room schoolhouse in Beekmantown NY. Later, she “graduated “to teaching 2nd grade for the remainder of her career. Evelyn married Robert T. Kennedy on April 18, 1949 in Plattsburgh, and together they had 4 children. When they retired, they sold their home, bought an RV, and traveled all over the United States for the next 20+ years, eventually settling in Tucson, AZ. Robert passed away in 2002. In 2005, Evelyn moved to Grand Forks, ND to be closer to her daughter and family. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Susan (Don) Cox; sons, Tim (Lauren) Kennedy and Kevin (Sheri) Kennedy; 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Susan), Brendan (Krista), Ryan (Erin), Patrick (Emily) and Michael Cox, Kristy (Shannon) Kennedy, and Jackie (Josh) Cameron; and 12 great grandchildren: Aiden, Caitlin, Cullen, Micah, Boden, Grace, Tristan, Liam, Jude, and Luca Cox, Kole Howie, and Myles Cameron. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five siblings and her daughter Carol. While her large family will miss the twinkle in her eye and that impish little smile that made you wonder what mischief she was planning, we will always have her in our hearts and know that she is watching over us. A memorial service will take place this summer in Lake Placid, NY. Family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley in Grand Forks, ND, or Luther Memorial Nursing Home in Mayville, ND.
