Elvira J. “Dolly” Johnson passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 at Valley Senior Living on 42nd in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She was 89.
Dolly was born on September 25, 1932 in Perley, Minnesota to Elmer and Myrtle (Thompson) Erickson. She was raised in Twin Valley, Minnesota where she received her education. Following high school, Dolly married John Torgerson. The couple began their family where Dolly spent her time as a homemaker. Dolly then went back to school where she received her L.P.N. degree and began practicing nursing.
Eventually, Dolly moved to the Fargo area where she was reacquainted and later married a childhood friend, Duane Johnson. The couple retired to Twin Valley, where Dolly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, taking care of flowers in the city park and several other volunteer activities. She loved sewing, playing bingo and family Thanksgiving with her entire family at the Twin Valley Legion Club. Dolly also enjoyed making lefse for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Dolly “Mema,” was especially fond of spoiling her grandchildren in any way that she could.
Dolly is survived by: her daughters; Patrice (Bob) Donald of East Grand Forks, MN, Valerie Cartier of Grand Forks, and Kim (Dave) Jacobson of Redwing, MN; step-sons; Roger and Bruce Johnson; grandchildren, James (Susan) Donald, Shawn (Penny) Donald, Michele (Dave) Palmieri, Adam Donald, Kelli (Jesse) Maupin, Brad (Laura) Jacobson, and Karli Cartier; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Duane; a sister, Lois Neuman; and step-sons, Paul and Michael Johnson.
A private celebration of life will be held, at a later date.
