Ellen Hutton

Ellen J. Hutton, 87, Manvel, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. 

Ellen Justine Gerszewski was born July 29, 1937 in Walsh County, ND, the daughter of Philip and Eva (Tibiatowski) Gerszewski. She was raised and educated in Walsh County but graduated from High School at Oslo, MN. 

 Ellen married Leslie “Les” Hutton Jr. on November 20, 1956. They lived in Grand Forks and later in Oslo, MN before settling in Manvel, ND where they lived and farmed. Ellen and Les owned and operated Turtle River Bean Co. where Ellen also worked as a bookkeeper until retirement.

 Ellen loved crocheting, reading, gardening, and flowers. She was an excellent cook and baker and very much enjoyed making meals for family and friends. She was also a devout Catholic and loved singing in the choir. 

 Ellen’s family includes her children, Jeff (Alicia) Hutton, Craig (Amy) Hutton, Mike (Kendra) Hutton, and Laurie (Steve) Schumer; grandchildren, Abbie Hutton, Tanner (Carlie) Hutton, Kassie (James) Pike, Turner (Monica) Hutton, Cotton (Hannah) Hutton and Clae Hutton, Luke Hutton, Nick Hutton, Christopher Hutton, Barry Hutton, Logan Hutton and Ethan Hutton, Kole (Megan) Hutton, Brody (Ashley) Hutton and Morgan Hutton, Matthew (Tina) Schumer, Joshua Schumer, and Rachel (Pat) Maher; as well as 14 great grandchildren.

 Ellen is survived by brother Jerry and was preceded in death by her husband, Les in 2018; granddaughter, Abbie Hutton; and Ellen’s siblings, Janine, Phil, Eddie, Dickie, and Jimmy.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2024 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church of Manvel. Visitation will be for the hour before Mass in the church. Burial will be in St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery, Manvel, ND. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks.
