Elaine C. Carlson

Elaine Charlotte (Johnson) Carlson, age 94, passed away on September 19, 2023, in Grand Forks, ND. Elaine was born June 21, 1929, in St. Croix Falls, WI to parents Leonard & Ida Johnson. She grew up in Lindstrom (MN) and graduated from Chisago Lakes (MN) High School in 1947, and the University of Minnesota with an elementary teaching degree in 1951. She married Theodore (Ted) Carlson on July 10, 1959 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, MN. Ted and Elaine lived in Maine, Upper Michigan, and Minnesota and raised 3 children. As a teacher, Elaine taught in Hibbing, Ruthton, & Lynd, MN and at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. Elaine was very active in the churches that Ted served. Her hobbies were crafting, gardening, traveling, camping, sewing, quilting, cooking, & baking. In her retirement years she worked with the new Americans and the Global Friends Coalition as a tutor. She is survived by her brother Myron Johnson of Chisago City, MN, children Eunice (Ferman) Woodberry of Jackson, MN, Nathan (Cheryl) Carlson of Grand Forks, ND, Daniel (Lori) Carlson of Grand Forks, ND, grandchildren, Kayla and Kenan Woodberry, Stephanie, Jonathan, and Adam Carlson, Kristin Vetter, Chelsea (Sam) King and Callie (Cass) Myers, great grandchildren Jaeden, Micha, Averyel, Landry, and Brooklyn as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Loren, mother Ida, father Leonard, and husband Theodore. Services will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be held at Fahlun Lutheran Church Cemetery, Nelson, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Elaine's name to Global Friends Coalition of Grand Forks, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Senior Living for the wonderful care they provided for Elaine.
