Edward “Ed” Michael Lemar, 80, Thompson, died July 13, 2024, at Altru Rehabilitation Hospital - Encompass Health.
Edward was born July 29, 1943, in Rugby, North Dakota, the son of Matthew and Josephine (Buckmeier) Lemar. He grew up on the family farm in rural Wolford, ND.
Ed attended country school until 8th grade. He then attended school in Wolford where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Ed proudly served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Vietnam War. He attended the United States Army Engineer School where he trained as a power plant operator/mechanic.
In 1967, Ed married Paulette Brossart. From this union, they were blessed with 3 children: Sonya, Kristi, and Chad.
Ed went on to receive a Master Electrician’s License and worked as the North Dakota Mill and Elevator Electrical Superintendent. In 1990, Ed married Claudia Hanson. They made their home in Thompson.
After Ed retired in 2004, they started spending their winters in the Rio Grande Valley where he made many lifelong friendships.
He enjoyed vacationing with family in many states, camping, fishing, boating, snow skiing, and watching and encouraging his children and grandchildren in school activities and sports.
Ed is survived by his wife, Claudia, children: Sonya Lemar, Grand Forks, Kristi Hillerud, Jamestown, Chad (Michelle) Lemar, Fargo, Chad (Miriam) Troitte, Fargo, Tammy (Michael) Burger, East Grand Forks, MN; 9 grandchildren: Dalton Patterson, Erin (Nolan) Love, Tanner (Sydney) Hillerud, Haley Burger, Emma Hillerud, Grant Burger, Kobe Lemar, Koren Lemar, Anna Troitte; great grandchild: Lukah Love; siblings: Ralph (Donna) Lemar, Fargo; Josie (Vance) Bowersox, Grand Forks; Virgil (Evelyn Paulson) Lemar, Rugby; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings James Lemar, Harold Lemar, and Genevieve Schell.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Thompson, ND. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dementia Society of America.
