Carl “Ed” Edward Goetz of Grand Forks, ND, died September 24, 2023 following brief care under Hospice of RRV at Altru Hospital. He was surrounded by family when he took his last breath. 

Ed was born on December 2,1943 in Evansville, IN. Son of the late Arthur (1902-1976) and late Loretta McNeal (1910-1959) Goetz. He attended Saint Theresa Elementary School and graduated from North High School in 1963.

He was united into marriage to Karen Everson August 18,1967. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND.

He served the United States Air Force from 1964-1968. Upon discharge from the Air Force he worked with the US Postal Service from 1968 until retirement in 2006. During his employment with the USPS he served as the Chief Shop Steward and on the Local Executive Board of Local 323 of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union. He decided retirement was not for him so after one year he started employment at Altru Health System. He worked in Altru’s mailroom until 2020.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, playing with and teaching his grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking trips with Karen. Some of their adventures together included trips to Nashville, New Orleans, Dallas, San Francisco, and numerous trips to The Shooting Star Casino to test their luck!

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Karen, his children Kari (Earl Grandstrand) of Grand Forks, ND; Kevin (Jennifer) of Fargo, ND; Christopher (Emily) of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Madelyn, Elijah, Weston, Gabrielle, and Elliot. He is also survived by his sister in-laws Marilyn Goetz, Millie Everson, Diane Everson, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed is preceeded in death by his parents Arthur & Loretta, Sister Juanita Bridge, Brothers James Goetz and Donald Goetz. In-laws Alec and Sigrid Everson, Arnold Everson, Lawrence and Mary Pat Everson, Marion and Neil Smith, Shirley and Edward Bock, and Gordon Everson.

Celebration of Life: Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, Saturday October 14th at 11:00 am with visitation 1 hour prior. A reception and meal at the church will follow. Internment: Private Family ceremony at North Memorial Park at a future date.
