Duane Bry, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 29, 1939, to Edwin and Nellie (Kittleson) Bry. He was educated in the Manvel Public School system, graduating in 1957. After graduation, Duane worked for Grand Forks County until he opened a repair shop in Grand Forks. In 1969, he built a shop in Manvel called Bry Repair, which he operated until 2009. Bry Repair was the gathering place in Manvel for years, where many stories and laughs were shared. He was a member of the North Dakota National Guard and fulfilled his tour of duty in 1968.

On November 16, 1968, he married Rita Ferry and together they had four children:  Jeff (Tricia) of Fargo, ND; Jennifer (David) Harrison of Manvel, ND; Mark (Sarah) of Grand Forks, ND and Mike (Jessica) of Lakeville, MN; and eleven grandchildren: Chloe Bry, Lauren Harrison, Chase Bry, Ryan Harrison, Grant Harrison, Noah Bry, Ella Bry, Drew Harrison, Charley Bry, Mason Bry and Sawyer Bry; sisters: Lorraine (Ray) Lundquist and Barbara Johnson; Brothers-in-law Tom (Bonnie) Ferry, Tim (Rhea) Ferry and sisters-in-law Lu Bry, Ruth Ann Gerszewski and Arlene Ferry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Vernon (Genevieve); Paul; Kenneth (Virginia); Bob (Shirley); Ed (Marilyn); sisters Doris (Don) Lorents and Elaine (Chuck) Coleman; father-in-law and mother-in-law Irwin and Regina Ferry, brothers-in-law Ob Shirley, Dave Johnson and Joe Gerszewski.

Duane’s life revolved around his family. He spent countless hours with Rita, watching and taking their kids to play hockey, basketball, baseball, football, softball, volleyball, and track. He rarely missed a game. Falls were spent hunting, and summers were spent on fishing adventures and enjoying water sports. He loved pulling his kids on water skis. He was proud to have success in getting countless friends and family up on water skis behind his boat. Duane loved to tell the story of when he water skied nonstop from Oak Island to Springsteel Resort on Lake of the Woods, which was 40 miles.

As proud as Duane was of his children, he delighted even more in his grandchildren. He loved watching them at their events and they could do no wrong. He shared a special bond with each grandchild. He loved his family and bragged about them to anyone who would listen. Duane will be remembered for his love for his family and his quick wit. He taught his children and grandchildren to love and respect wildlife, the outdoors and each other.

Duane lived in Manvel his entire life. He often said there was no place better to live and raise a family. Duane is a member of the Manvel American Legon and Trinity Lutheran Church of Manvel. He was also a member of the Manvel-Gilby Gun Club, Turtle River Roughrider Snowmobile Club and the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department, answering the fire phone in his home and business for many years.
