Douglas Steven Slominski

December 8, 1952 — March 26, 2025

Douglas Steven Slominski, age 72, passed away peacefully at home on the farm in Ardoch, surrounded by his family. Born in Grand Forks, on December 8, 1952, to Stephen T. & Evelyn R. (Mesheske) Slominski, Doug lived a life defined by family, farming, and adventure.

Doug attended elementary school at St. Anthony Catholic school in Warsaw, ND, and graduated from Oslo High School in 1970. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science in 1971, that same year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served 2 years in Hanau, Germany. In October 1972, he married Jody (Hoverson) Slominski, following his completion of basic training. They traveled Europe while stationed overseas. After his honorable discharge in 1974, Doug completed his education and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Systems Design in 1975.

Farming was in Doug’s blood, and he devoted his life to working the land alongside his grandparents, parents, siblings, children, and friends. His work ethic, dedication, and love for the land live on in his children and grandchildren. Doug’s adventurous spirit took him to all 50 states and numerous countries, both during his military service and throughout his life. In 2018, he met Sandra Mahar, with whom he spent his retirement years between AZ and ND, enjoying concerts, spending time with friends, and traveling.

An active and proud member of Manvel American Legion Post #299 for nearly 50 years, Doug served in many leadership roles, including Commander 1990-1992. His presence was a constant at Memorial Day and funeral services, where the sound of TAPS, played by Doug himself, honored fellow veterans.

He was a devoted father and the number one supporter of his four children—Stacey, Brian, Cary, and Greg. He never hesitated traveling to cheer them on in all school activities, sports and life events. He loved fishing, spending time on the water, golfing, horseshoes, pickleball, racing/riding snowmobiles and watching hockey. He was always up for a challenge and just a little competition! He took immense pride in his Polish heritage, speaking Polish with his grandparents and parents until he started school. His warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to family will never be forgotten.

Doug is survived by his mother, Evelyn R. (Mesheske) Slominski; siblings, Jackie (Mitch) Holter, Shelly (Calvin) Pecka, and Joel (Susan) Slominski; Companion, Sandra Mahar of Mesa, AZ; Mother of their children, Jody (Hoverson) Slominski, children: Stacey (Matt) Schultz of Lanesboro, MN, Brian Slominski of Ardoch, ND, Cary (Hannah) Slominski of Hudson, IA, and Gregory (Andrea) Slominski of Belgrade, MT; and his beloved grandchildren, Dionte, Stephan, Jarek, and Lauren Schultz; Eli and Cora Slominski; Luke, Hayley, Tessa, and Olin Douglas Slominski. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen T. Slominski, and grandparents, John & Regina (Skibitski) Mesheske and William & Mary (Ginter) Slominski.

Doug’s presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am, Monday, April 7th, 2025, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Manvel, ND. Visitation will be held one hour before the mass. A light luncheon will follow. The family will gather at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Warsaw, ND, for the burial.
