Doris Margaret (Fish) Delmaire, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in her home at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with her daughters by her side.

Doris was born to Harold and Ethel (Pearson) Fish on May 24, 1928, in Rugby, North Dakota. She was the oldest of three daughters.  After graduating from high school, Doris began teaching at a country school while attending Minot Teachers’ College during the summer months.

On June 14, 1948, Doris married John Delmaire in Rolette, North Dakota.  Together, they had four daughters: Leotta (Lee), Lynnette, Suzanne, and Teresa (Terry).  John and Doris farmed in the Rolette area for several years before moving to Greenbush, Minnesota for eight years, then settling in Grand Forks to raise their family. They retired in Larimore, North Dakota, and lived there until John’s death in February of 2011, at which time Doris sold their Larimore home and returned to Grand Forks.

Doris was a very resourceful person.  Doris’ vegetable garden was the envy of the neighborhood, friends and family frequently referred to her as “Good Cook Doris,” and family members often gathered around her kitchen table to enjoy her homemade cinnamon rolls, bread, and buns. She was a gifted seamstress who made matching clothes for her daughters, bridesmaid dresses for weddings (her daughters’ and others), and gifted her family with cherished quilts.

Doris loved to be active.  Over the years, Doris and John enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with family and friends.  They also enjoyed evenings dining and dancing at the Eagles Club. Doris loved to dance.  Polka music was often heard flowing from her kitchen, and she would be found dancing away as she cooked.  In addition, she enjoyed reading, playing games (Scrabble being a favorite), and going for walks.  Doris and her mother were avid Twins baseball fans, and it was not uncommon to find her in front of the TV cheering on the team.

She is survived by her daughters: Lee (Dan) Anderson, Grand Forks, ND; Lynnette (Terry) Kinsella, Hixson, TN; Suzanne (Jason) Vingelen, Spokane, WA; Terry (Mark) Aubol, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Brett (Rhonda) Anderson, Grand Forks, ND; Troy (Jacinda) Anderson, Parker, CO; Cory Anderson, Grand Forks, ND; Jennifer Kinsella, Cary, NC; Nicholas (Erika) Kinsella, Thornton, CO; Melissa Kinsella, Chattanooga, TN; Matthew (Katie) Vingelen, Spokane, WA; Justin Aubol, Grand Forks, ND; Casey (Emily) Aubol, Bismarck, ND; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delores Thames and Dianne Jackson; and granddaughter, Andrea Vingelen Fagley.

The family would like to thank the Valley Senior Living Hearthstone neighborhood staff for their support and tender care.
