Dianne Sharon Volker

Dianne Sharon VOLKER Pedie, age 84, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023. She was born on March 11, 1939, in Bottineau, ND, to Elvin Carl Leonard Volker and Adeline Block Volker, formerly of Grand Forks, ND, and Everett, Washington. Dianne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years Alexander Pedie, formerly of the Turtle Mountains north of Bottineau, ND, her sister Sharlet D A Volker formerly of Grand Forks, ND; and her brother Terrance Volker (Geraldine), both formerly of Everett, Washington and Center, North Dakota. She is survived by her son Alexander "Christopher" Pedie (Lynn)of Glenburn, ND, and her daughter Mary Ann Dianne Pedie Crow of Grand Forks, ND. Dianne is also survived by her brother Rodger Volker (Norine) of San Antonio, TX; two granddaughters, two grandsons, one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her loving family, cherished friends and students.

Dianne had a passion for teaching and dedicated four decades of her life to this noble profession.  She obtained her degree from Minot State Teachers College and also went back to further her education at Columbia University in New York City, NY.   She spent most of her teaching career at Dunseith Elementary School in Dunseith, ND, and also taught for three years in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dianne's commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as she taught water safety, computer science, and various grade levels from 1 to 10. Her students remember her as a fun, giving, and reliable teacher who was always there for them.

In addition to her teaching career, Dianne proudly served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for two years, demonstrating her deep respect and commitment to her country.  She was the only female in the Jr ROTC program at Grand Forks Central High School and learned Morse Code.  She was also a farmer's wife and helped run the family's construction business.  

Outside of work, Dianne enjoyed boating, camping, reading, and visiting museums. She had a thirst for knowledge and loved sharing her passion for learning with others.  In her retirement, she would guide tours teaching about the history of North Dakota on trains.

A graveside service will be held at Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park North Cemetery. Contributions in Dianne's memory can be made to an elementary classroom teacher of your choice, a cause close to her heart.

Dianne Sharon Volker will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, mentor, and friend. Her impact on the lives she touched will continue to be felt for generations to come.
