Dan G. Nelson

Dan G. Nelson, 55, Grand Forks, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday October 22, 2023.

Danny Gerald Nelson, the son of Dale Gerald and Helen Joyce (Torgerson) Nelson was born in Grand Forks on June 20th, 1968. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks including Red River High School.  He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and often reminisced of childhood memories. Dan was married for 19 years to Dawn (Johannesson) Nelson and raised two beautiful children, Chelsey and Taylar.

He worked in the family business, Nelson Masonry, for his entire career. His proudest professional achievements include helping rebuild Grand Forks following the flood of 1997 and the interior masonry of Englestad Arena. Throughout his career, Nelson Masonry became well known and well respected within the community and even extended into neighboring states including Minnesota and Montana. The success of Nelson Masonry would not have been possible without the leadership of his father, Dale and the partnership of his brother, Ed.

He enjoyed spending his free time at Maple Lake where he was always the captain of the boat. He also enjoyed his motorcycle, hunting, traveling and working on his 1968 Firebird. His most cherished moments were with his family and grandchildren.

Danny is survived by his mother, Helen Nelson of Grand Forks, ND; children: Chelsey (Skyler) Filipi Gunville of Grand Forks, ND and Taylar Nelson of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Hazel Nelson, Cooper Goulet, and Stevie Gunville; siblings: Lori (Dean) Bjerk of Oslo, MN Billie Jo (Art) Bayne of Oslo, MN and Darcy Berg of Stephen, MN.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Nelson, and brothers Chris Nelson, and Ed Nelson.

Memorial Services will be 1:00pm on October 27th, 2023, in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at Amundson Funeral Home.
