Daniel Kuhlman

November 19, 1941 — September 9, 2024

Grand Forks

Daniel Allen Kuhlman, 82, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Monday September 9th at Valley Transitional Care in Grand Forks, ND after a hard fought battle with lung cancer.

Daniel Allen Kuhlman was born November 19, 1941, in Grand Forks, ND to George and Clarice Kuhlman. He grew up in Grand Forks, ND and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1960. During high school, he started the Cam Rouser Car Club with many friends who continue the traditions to this day.

Daniel married Marilyn Haugrud on July 27, 1963 in Pelican Rapids, MN. During their 61 years of marriage, Daniel and Marilyn enjoyed spending time with their family. Daniel spent his summers at Lake of the Woods and Leech Lake where he enjoyed making memories outdoors with family and friends. He instilled the love of fishing and boating with his wife, children, and grandchildren. They wintered in Florida where they continued making memories with friends and family.

Daniel Kuhlman served as Acme Tools president for more than 50 years. He joined his father, Acme Electric founder George Kuhlman, in 1962 and expanded the family owned and operated business over five decades. Daniel also started Acme Rents in 1995 and then Acme Equipment in 2013, both in Grand Forks. Acme Tools celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023. Daniel certainly took great pride in his work which he learned early on from his parents, who started the business in 1948. Daniel was a good listener and teacher who took the time to offer advice to come up with a solution or help solve a problem to get the job done right. Daniel called Grand Forks home and certainly enjoyed working in the community with friends, family and community members. He also enjoyed his workweek mornings with friends having breakfast and being part of “The Breakfast Club.” He was a longtime member and supporter of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Cynthia (Todd) Ramage, Steven (Melissa) Kuhlman, Paul (Krista) Kuhlman; and 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Aaron (Hailey), Meghan (Brian), Grant (Holly), Spencer, Jacob, Emma, Britta and Stella; brother Wayne (Patty) Kuhlman; and sister Cherylyn (Gerald) Ericson; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clarice Kuhlman.
