Curtis A. Johnson, 82, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in Grand Forks.
Curtis was born September 3, 1937 near Larimore, ND, the son of Chester and Evelyn “Babe” (Gratton) Johnson. He was raised near Logan Center, ND and graduated from Logan Center High School. Shortly thereafter, he moved with his family to Grand Forks. Curtis enlisted in the in the U. S. Navy and served on Coronado Island near San Diego, CA. He also served with the National Guard.
Curtis married Verna Vind on November 12, 1960 at Crookston, MN. They lived in Grand Forks where Curtis made a career working with Northern States Power Co., first in the steam plant and later as the head meterman. Verna passed away on April 12, 2006.
Curt was a collector. He liked western and southwestern arts and crafts. He also collected and restored Ford Mustangs and bicycles. Above all he cherished his family and friends. He was a longtime member of United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks.
Curtis married Marlene Peterson on May 17, 2008 in Grand Forks. She survives along with Curt’s children, Craig (Michele) Johnson, Roseville, MN, Daniel (Vickie) Johnson, East Grand Forks, MN and Kristen (James) Jennings, Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Brandon and Abby Johnson, Samuel, Rebekah, Eli, Hannah , Isaac and Sarah Jennings; sisters, Jean Anderson, East Grand Forks, MN and Maxine Rice, Swanton, Vermont; and several nieces and nephews
Curt was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna, and by grandchildren, Shelby Johnson and Abram Jennings.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 7, 2019 at United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation and viewing will be Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a 4:00 PM Prayer Service at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3817 and the U. S. Navy honor guard.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to United Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
