Cheryl Lynne Lemieux

November 28, 1949 — June 2, 2024

Grand Forks

Cheryl Lynne Lemieux “Cheri” 74 was born in Grand Forks North Dakota to Gene and Elaine Fenstad on November 28, 1949. Cheri went to be with the lord on June 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Cheri was raised in Grand Forks graduating from Grand Forks Central High School “Redskins Forever” in 1967. As a senior she was instrumental in starting girls’ tennis and was the first ND State champion in singles for Central.

Cheri attended the University of North Dakota “Fighting Sioux” graduating with a master’s degree in special education in 1971 with a 4.0. She briefly taught high school at Larimore and Midway, ND before retiring to raise her family.

Cheri was married to Gary Lemieux on January 10th, 1975. Her family consisted of daughter Aimee Curran (Adam), a son Marc and daughter Allison Hanson (Josh). Her granddaughters Halle and Hanna Curran, Sydnee Lemieux and Brynn Hanson. Cheri had one very special friend Theodore Eugene Bear “Ted E Bear” her cat who adopted her and whom she shared her favorite chair.

She loved watching Minnesota Vikings football and unfortunately, she will never get to see them win a Super Bowl…but nobody will! She loved watching pro tennis (Rafa Nadal) and any sports her children and grandchildren were involved in. She loved to shop, especially for clothes and jewelry, as evident in the outfits she wore to church.

Cheryl was a huge advocate of the Humane Society. She religiously purchased toys, blankets, treats and other animal supplies for donation. She also donated to numerous other charities which included ASPCA, police and fireman’s funds, Disabled American vets, Paralyzed Vets, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Cheri is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and a sister, Debbie Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Elaine Fenstad; her in-laws, Andrew and Adeline Lemieux; her brother in-law, David Murphy and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and 16 pets.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Cheri may be given to the Grand Forks Humane Society.
