Cheryl A Doerr, 74, Grand Forks, was called home on Friday October 5, 2018 at Altru hospital following a motor vehicle accident in Grand Forks.
Chery Ann Broeckel, the daughter of Herbert and Annabelle (Fischer) Broeckel, was born on December 3, 1943 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cheryl graduated from Bismarck High School in 1961. She married Roy Doerr on April 20, 1963. They started their lives and family together in Bismarck. They later moved to Minot in 1964, where their son Jeffrey was born. They moved to Colorado and then Wyoming where Debbie and Brenda were born respectively. In 1978, they moved back to Minot. At that time, Cheryl started her in-home daycare. She was a loving second home to many children over the 20 years that she was a care giver. Her compassion and warm hugs were endless. Everyone who knew her felt they were valued.
Cheryl enjoyed reading and watching home improvement shows. She loved learning about other people’s lives through her books. She had empathy for everyone and could easily cry over a book over movie. She liked decorating her home for the different seasons and putting into practice what she saw on HGTV. She had an eye for color and was very artistic. She would spend time planting flowers in the spring and treasured the blooms throughout the summer. Her frosted sugar cookies and Special K bars were a big hit with everyone.
She and Roy spent many evenings talking about life, watching TV, and playing Wheel of Fortune together. They were a perfect match and cherished each other deeply. It was important to them to spend as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren, their pride and joy. Cheryl also had so many wonderful memories of time spent with her sister in Mexico. Everyone who met her could see what a kind and loving soul she was. God’s hands were at work through her every day.
Holding her cherished memory are her husband Roy (of 55 years), 3 children, Jeffrey (Laurie) Doerr Minot; Deborah (Craig) Tietz Moorhead, MN; and Brenda (Richard) Hartje Grand Forks; 7 grandchildren Bryan and Sean Doerr; Abby and Cooper Tietz; Meghan, Lila, and Libby Hartje, great grandchild Connor Doerr; sister Joan (Terry) Brosseau Bismarck, and several nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was greeted in heaven by her parents Herb and Ann, two brothers Gene and Dick Broeckel, and grandson Sam Hartje.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks with visitation 1 hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
