We are saddened to announce the passing of Cassondra Lynn Thorsen of Grand Forks, North Dakota on Friday, May 3, 2024, at her home.
Cassie was born in Long Beach, California on December 19, 1988. She was the oldest of three children born to Randy and Julie (Barta) Thorsen. Cassie moved with her parents from Long Beach, California to Seattle, WA, finally settling in Grand Forks. She was a very proud and protective sister of Nick and Megan and loved them very much.
Cassie graduated from Grand Forks Central High School with the class of 2007. In addition to being a hard-working student, Cassie was a football cheerleader and fast-pitch softball player, but really enjoyed trying any athletic activity, because she was a quick learner. After graduation, Cassie attended UND for a few years before moving to Seattle to spend time with her dad, Randy. She was optimistic that Seattle would open new doors for her.
Cassie loved reading, art, music, baking cookies and cinnamon rolls, spending time at the lake with family and water sports. Her biggest passion was spending time with her nephews and her friend’s children. Although her life ended before her dreams of motherhood were fulfilled, her nephews, Knox and Easton, meant the world to her. A special light shone within her when she spent time with them, protecting them and teaching them to love life.
Cassie will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her parents, Julie and Randy; siblings, Nick and Megan; nephews, Knox and Easton; special friend, Charles Helps; grandparents, Audrey Barta and Dan and Colleen Barta; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cassie was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Sandra Akers and paternal grandfather, James D. Thorsen.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Amundson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
