Carolyn Jane Norman, age 80, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Altru Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 11, 1946, in Grand Forks, ND to the late Carl and Thelma (Gunderson) Schroeder. Carolyn grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks.
She married Ron Norman, and together they had five children. She had her hands full raising her children and dedicating herself to her family. She was employed for many years with American Crystal Sugar and Hugo's Family Marketplace.
Everyone who knew Carolyn knew she enjoyed bingo, thrifting (and nobody could ever find a better bargain than she could), trips to the lake, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Whether it was a sporting event, a school program, or simply everyday life, she was always there to cheer on those she loved. She was a second mother to many, with a door that was always open and a willingness to help whenever she was needed. She was kind, loving, and a little spicy, and you could always count on her for a laugh or a shoulder to lean on. To know her was to love her. She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Loving family members who survive Carolyn include her five children, Rhonda (Steve) Olson of East Grand Forks, MN, Denise (Shane) Martin of Grand Forks, ND, Ronald (Janelle) Norman Jr. of Grand Forks, ND, Destry (Leanne) Norman of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dennae (Pete) Swenson of Bismarck, ND; her siblings, Betty Becker and Lawrence (Lynn) Schroeder; her eleven grandchildren, Nicole Norman, Karissa Olson, Brittany Green, Haley Martin, Emily Thompson, Matthew Olson, Jacob Olson, Madisen Tschosik, Abby Norman, Peyton Swenson, and Piper Norman; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ben, Shirley, Ed, Carol, and Darlene.
A service to remember and celebrate Carolyn's life will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 1:00pm at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND. Visitation with the family will take place an hour prior to the service, from 12:00pm-1:00pm, with a private family burial to follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery North, in Grand Forks, ND.
Following the burial, the family would like to invite those able to attend to a reception at the Eagle's Club in East Grand Forks, MN, for refreshments and a time of continued visitation. (227 10th St NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721)
