Bruce Allen Hoeger, 62, Bismarck, formerly of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Rural Linton, ND.
Bruce Allen Hoeger was born to Richard and Patricia Hoeger in Park River, ND. His family moved to Grand Forks, ND in his youth where he attended school.
After graduation, he joined the US Army from 1979-1982 where he was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. Most of his life he worked for his father at Hoeger Steel Bins, then on June 1, 1988, he joined the Grand Forks Fire Department where he proudly served until his retirement on August 21, 2015. He worked many positions within GFFD and served as a Fire Marshal for the last 14 years of his employment in Grand Forks, ND.
In August 2015, he was hired as ND State Deputy Fire Marshal and worked until 2017. He worked at Johnson Control until his retirement in May 2023.
Bruce married Leah Johnson from Oslo, MN on April 13, 1985. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND where they raised their two children, Tim and Trisha.
He passed away in Emmons County doing what he loves - hunting. He was hunting pheasant and deer and shot a nice buck that morning.
Besides spending time outdoors, he enjoyed hiking in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Bruce loved riding his Harley Davidson and was in the process of restoring his 1970 Malibu.
He loved going out to the lake and spent the last 20 summers going to Cass Lake Lodge.
He and his wife were "true foodies" and made many sausages and smoked meats, canned everything from their garden, and baked wonderful breads and treats.
He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed one. He was a gentle, kind soul and will be greatly missed.
Bruce is survived by his mother Patricia, his wife Leah, son Tim with his wife Haley, daughter Trisha, grandson Chayse and granddaughters Berklee and Skotlyn of Grand Forks, ND; his siblings Valerie (Chris) Haring of West Plains MO, Nannette Hoeger of Grand Forks ND, Shelly (Lonnie) Gormsen of Ham Lake MN, Dan (Tammi) Hoeger of San Tan Valley AZ, Don (Margaret) Hoeger of Grand Forks ND, Kerry (Eric) Morton of Bend OR; his mother-in-law Colleen Johnson of Oslo MN, brother-in-law Corey Johnson of Oslo MN, sister-in-law Denise Byrd of Cheyenne WY; also many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and innumerable people who considered him a dad as well.
He is preceded in death by his father Richard Hoeger, his father-in-law Willie Johnson and brother-in-law Travis Johnson.
Memorial service will be held Monday, November 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Amundson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
