Bonnie Holweger

June 29, 1954 — April 16, 2020

On Thursday, April 16, 2020, Bonnie Marie Holweger, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away with family by her side, from metastatic breast cancer.

Bonnie was born on July 29, 1954 in Grand Forks, N.D. to Thorvald and Jean Paulson (Engen) of rural Niagara, ND and graduated from Larimore High School.  After high school, Bonnie attended Aakers Business College and then married Darrell Holweger on August 3, 1974 at Elm Grove Lutheran Church in McCanna, ND.  Together, they had two children: Theresa and Jon. Bonnie was a stay at home mom while the children grew up, and she was a dedicated and loving mom!  Bonnie really enjoyed camping and as the years went on, the family camped in pop-up campers, a motor home, and currently, in their seasonal camper at Larimore Dam.  Larimore Dam was one of Bonnie’s favorite places and she spent as much time there as possible.  Also among Bonnie’s favorites were traveling, Christmas, frog figurines, her husband, and anything associated with her grandchildren!

Bonnie will be remembered for her sincerity, unexpected humor, appreciation for the simple things in life, and her macaroni salads with the perfectly sliced, tiny pieces of celery.

Left to celebrate Bonnie’s life are her husband of 45 years, Darrell; grown children, Theresa Allard and Jon (Kayla) Holweger; brother, Tom (Jody) Paulson; sister, Rene’ (Billy) Newland; 6 “grands”: Ashlyn, Kassidy, Brody, Katie, Meredith, and Nathan; as well as a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ricky Paulson.

Memorials are preferred to Altru Health Foundation’s Hospice or your hospice of choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2020 from 1-4 p.m. at University Park, Grand Forks, ND.  All are welcome.
