Bernice Martinson, 91, of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Valley Senior Living Riverside Neighborhood.
Bernice Elaine Bolken, the daughter of Hector and Olga (Johnson) Bolken, was born on June 29, 1933, at Tolna, North Dakota.
She grew up and attended rural schools at Tolna and graduated from Tolna High School. She married Selmer “Sam” Martinson on October 9, 1954, at Devils Lake, North Dakota. They lived at Devils Lake and in 1966 moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. In 1969 they moved to Grand Forks and established Northland Mobile Homes in Grand Forks. Bernice worked in the business as an accountant until the business was liquidated in the early 1990’s. She later worked for 18 years at Zales Jewelers in Grand Forks. She was an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and enjoyed helping with many bazaars and lefse making events. She also participated in women’s golf leagues.
Bernice is survived by her two daughters, Joni, and Tammy (Robert Anderson, significant other), both of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Amy Gilbertson (Anna Westlund, significant other), Alan Gilbertson (Maranda Jacobsen, significant other), Christian Bauduin (Jayde, significant other), and Matthew Bauduin (Megan); two great grandchildren, Greta and Calvin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Selmer “Sam”, and a sister, Lorraine Marquart.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
