Bernard J (Bernie) Zejdlik 92 Grand Forks, ND passed away at home Dec 28, 2019
Bernard James Zejdlik was born October 6, 1927 in Tabor MN to Joseph and Rose (Arnold) Zejdlik. He attended school in Tabor and worked on the family farm. In the late 1940’s he moved with family to East Grand Forks MN. In 1947 he was drafted into the US Army to serve in WWII, he was released from duty in 1948 and started working for Minnesota Dairy in Grand Forks. He was recalled to duty in 1950 and was deployed to Korea and later discharged in 1953.
He married Marie A Kohl April 15, 1953 at St Michaels Church in Grand Forks, which he was a member for 66 years. He returned to work at Minnesota Dairy, eventually moving into the plant to work as a milk processor, as well as making specialty products like buttermilk, cottage cheese and of course, he spoiled us with ice cream.
In 1989 he decided to retire from the dairy after 33 years. Retirement was short- lived and he started working grounds maintenance at the YMCA. He worked there for another 25 years. Retiring for good in 2014.
Bernie enjoyed gardening, keeping his lawn immaculate, camping at Fox Lake, and Gull Lake in MN. He was an active member of VFW Post 1874, Grand Forks, DAV Chapter 2, Grand Forks, American Legion Post 157, East Grand Forks, and Fraternal Order of Eagles, East Grand Forks.
He is survived by his sons: James (Sandra) Zejdlik, Ronald (Judy) Zejdlik, Charles Zejdlik, Shawn (Kelli) Zejdlik; daughter Debra Moriarty; grandchildren Jeremy (Dolores) Zejdlik, Ryan Zejdlik, Keith (Elizabeth) Zejdlik, Josh (Fenny) Zejdlik, Nick Zejdlik; great granddaughters: Elara Zejdlik, Davian (Hunter) Olson, Addison Zejdlik, and Ameillia Zejdlik.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, brother Robert, sisters Elsie, Berniece and Rosella.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
