Basil P. Tweten

Basil Paul Tweten Age 90 of Grand Forks, ND passed away  May 14, 2019 at home under the care of Hospice.

Basil was born May 23, 1928 at Brocket, North Dakota, he was a twin son of Anna (Odemoe) and Otto Tweten. 

He was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church of Brocket, North Dakota. 

Basil attended school in Brocket, ND and graduated in 1946.  After graduating he and his twin brother (Omer) enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and they were stationed at El Toro Marine Base.  After being discharged they both returned to North Dakota and Basil started his career with Northwestern Bell Telephone company.  In 1950, Basil was called back to service and served in the Korean conflict; training troops at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  After being discharged he returned to work with Northwestern Bell and continued working there for 37 years until his retirement.  

Basil married Carol (Knutson) August 13, 1950.  They lived in Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Lakota, ND and Grand Forks, ND.  They had three children Craig, Cameron and Ruann. 

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and Boy Scouts.   He was also a member of the American Legion and Telephone Pioneers. 

Basil enjoyed wood working, golfing and bowling.  He and his sons built their cabin at Island Lake where they spent many years.  Basil like to build anything with wood, spending time at the lake and his biggest enjoyment were his grandchildren.  Whatever his grandchildren were involved in, he was their biggest supporter and never missed an event.  All his grandchildren were special to him.

He is survived by his wife Carol, along with children, Craig (Dolly) and Cameron(Laurie) all of Grand Forks, Ruann(Jerry) Deschene of Warren, MN; grandchildren Jesse(Amber) Tweten, Talia(Mark) Telander, Janna Martin, Andrea (Laura) Tweten, Brad Tweten, Morgan (Todd) Olson, Christopher Deschene, Brenna (Aaron ) Olson, Hannah (Fiancé Hayden Sczepanski), Shayla Miller, Evan Deschene, Christian Tweten, Coby Tweten and great grandchildren; Mason Benefield, Elle, Ivy and Abbi Tweten, Madeline Martin, Lola and Greta Telander, Landry and Dalton Olson and baby Olson due August 2019, Sister-in-Law Dagney Tweten and Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Byron and Bernice Knutson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David, Otis, Arnold, Omer and sister Martha.

We want to Thank Altru Hospice and all the other caregivers for all their help and support during this time. 

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 20, 2019 at Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
