Barbara “Bobbie” Lee Trontvet, age 87, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and formerly Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away on August 6, 2022, at home in family hospice care after courageously taking on cancer for three months.
Bobbie was born on May 6, 1935, in Lennox, South Dakota to Clifford and Dorothy Anderson. She moved with her family from there to Pine River, Minnesota where they farmed, and then later on to Omaha, Nebraska where her dad attended seminary to prepare for a life of pastoral ministry. From there Bobbie moved with her family to Kentucky where she lived and graduated from Jackson, Kentucky high school.
After high school, Bobbie attended Trinity College in Chicago, Illinois where she met the love of her life, Orville Trontvet. Orville and Bobbie were married in 1955 and after going back to Kentucky to live near her parents for a time, they moved to Minnesota and made their home in Thief River Falls, where Orville was born and raised.
Bobbie and Orville raised their three children in Thief River Falls and once their children were in school, Bobbie went to work full time as a secretary at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls, a job she enjoyed for more than 20 years. At age 56, she moved with Orville to Grand Forks, North Dakota to begin a wonderful 28-year retirement together up until the time of Orville’s passing in late 2019.
During her retirement, Bobbie enjoyed time with her best friend and life-long companion, Orville, as well as time with her children and grandchildren, who she dearly loved. Bobbie also enjoyed spending winter months in Florida near her daughter and family; and making special meals for family and friends like Swedish pancakes, meatballs, or other desserts like donuts and blueberry pastries, as food preparation and hospitality was her “love language”.
Bobbie also enjoyed music, including singing with Orville and in choirs during their years in Thief River Falls, and spending much time at church volunteering or participating in a variety of activities, including Bible studies and prayer groups involving special friends. Bobbie’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ meant more to her than anything else, and more than anything in life she wanted her children and their families to experience that same relationship and hope that she had found in Jesus.
Bobbie and Orville were blessed with two sons, Randy and Rick, and one daughter, Robbin; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Bobbie is survived by her daughter, Robbin (Richard) Raines of Hollywood, Florida; son, Rick (Karmon) Trontvet of Warroad, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Joycelyn Trontvet of Grand Forks, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, Shane Raines, Ryan (Angelica) Raines, Kyle (Rachel) Trontvet, Kasey (Carli) Trontvet, Karter Trontvet, Janna Trontvet, Kelsey (Josh) Rolf, and Brayden (Catie) Trontvet; seven great grandchildren, Liv and Aaron Raines, Harper, Jaxen, Beckett, Bennett and Brooks Trontvet; sister, Gayle McCutchan; sister-in-law, Anita Anderson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Randy Trontvet; siblings, Clifford Jr. Anderson, Richard Anderson and Susan “Jane” Hauser; father-in-law, Ole Trontvet; and mother-in-law, Gunda Trontvet; along with many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
May Bobbie’s memory bring glory and honor to her Savior, Jesus Christ.
