Avis Mae Mullin, 85, Grand Forks, died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home.
Avis was born November 7, 1933, in Argyle, MN, the daughter of Leo and Lucille (Dufault) Parent. She grew up in Argyle, attending grade school in a one room country school house Northwest of Argyle, MN. She then attended high school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Crookston, MN, where she graduated in 1950.
She moved to Grand Forks where she worked as a nurse’s aide. In 1951, she started working for Maves Optical as a bookkeeper for 12 years. On March 18, 1963, Avis married Jack Mullin.
Avis enjoyed knitting. As her vision became worse, she would knit caps and then donate them to schools and other local charities. The last count, she had given away over 1200 hats to those in need. When her vision was better, Avis would collect dolls, mend them and make clothes for them. She enjoyed crafting and making things like Teddy Bears from old fur coats. Avis was a member of Valley Machine Knitters and made sweaters and coats and Christmas socks to hang on the chimney with a person's name on them for many families. She was also a great cook.
Avis is survived by her children: Mike Hennessy and Karen McLaren, her granddaughter Christy (Jeff) Dean, great grandchildren: Ashley, Tyler, Gracie, Savannah, and Colton, and brothers: Richard, Dean, and Dwight Parent.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
