Arthur S. Olson, 94, of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Art was born February 15, 1925, the son of Bennie H. Olson and Esther Amanda (Rustad) in Minot, North Dakota where he was raised and educated. Art was one of nine children, seven boys and two girls. He resided in the city of Minot but lived and worked on the family homestead during the summers. As an adult Art enjoyed farming for over 50 years. Art enlisted in the army in 1944 and served two years during World War II. He was a radio operator.
Art was united in marriage to Nola May Glasoe on June 19, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They raised four children and lived in Minot. They moved to Grand Forks in 2008 residing there for the rest of their lives.
Art enjoyed woodworking, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his farming brothers in Minot. He belonged to The American Legion for over 70 years and many other service organizations. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot and Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Art was a wonderful father and devoted husband.
Art is survived by his children Linda (Steve) Lande, Grand Forks, Anne (Wayne) Junker, Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Gary (Dannette Geiger) Olson, Minot, and Brent (Susan Morris) Olson, Stittsville, Ontario, Canada. 10 grandchildren Deanna Ness, Laura (James) Fehr, Dustin (Kelsey Fagerland) Olson, Joshua (Rachel Nelson) Junker, Seth (Jenny Ternes) Junker, Jessica Olson, Rachel (Christopher) Walden, Whitney (Travis) Jansen, David and Michael Olson and 10 great-grandchildren Ethan and Evelyn Ness, Madeline and Natalie Fehr, Alexander, Matthew, Maximus, Annabelle Walden, Theodore Junker and Nola Junker; two brothers Kenneth Olson, Minot and Gordon Olson, San Clemente, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nola, sisters, Burnette Guthrie, Eldrice Van Sickle and brothers, Harlan, Richard, Vernon and Curtiss Olson.
Funeral: 10 AM, Friday, June 7, 2019 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Military Honors provided by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Open House Celebration of Life: 1-3 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 1511 31st Avenue SE, Minot, North Dakota followed by the scattering of the ashes on the family farm.
