Arnold N. Braaten, 85, Park River, North Dakota and formerly of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in First Care Health Center, Park River.
Arnold Norman Braaten, the son of Henry and Alma (Johnson) Braaten, was born at Manvel, North Dakota on January 25, 1933. Arnold was raised and educated at Manvel. Arnold married Geraldine Dahl on July 19, 1951 in Grand Forks. They lived in Manvel and later moved to Grand Forks. Arnold worked in auto body repair, several years at Rydell Chevrolet and later owned Northstar Body Shop and Two Star Body Shop until he retired. Geraldine died September 14, 2001. Arnold moved to Grafton and to Park River in 2009 where he resided with Mary, his beloved second partner in life. Arnold owned and operated Fish Hook Tackle Shop, a second hand shop in Park River.
Arnold is survived by, Mary, his beloved second partner, Park River, ND; daughters, Norma (William) Szeveczyk, Grand Forks, and Linda (Ernie) Utley, Joplin, MO; 5 grandchildren, Christine Phillips, Angela Armbrust, William Utley, Michelle Nelsen, and Mitchell Sander; 8 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine; sisters, Grace Bjerklie, and Ruby O’Cain.
Funeral Services will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery in the spring. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials are preferred to St. Gianna’s Maternity Home, 15605 County Road 15, Minto, ND 58261.
