Arlene Ida Brandt, 92, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, from Leukemia. She died at home surrounded by her family.
Arlene was born August 12, 1926, at Happy Corner, rural Stephen, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Hjalmer and Delia (Grandstrand) Swanson.
Arlene attended school at Stephen and graduated from Hallock High School in 1944. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She was united in marriage to Rudolf W. Brandt on August 23, 1947. Arlene and Rudy had two daughters.
Arlene helped Rudy in their Culligan Soft Water business at Hillsboro, ND. After raising their family, the Brandts moved to Fargo, ND, where Arlene enjoyed her volunteer work at St. Luke's Hospital. She enjoyed bridge, traveling, & connecting with her Swedish cousins.
She spent her winters in Sunland Village, Mesa, AZ. Arlene had many good times at Rochester's of Mesa.
Arlene is survived by her daughters, Marla (Tom) McInnes, Hillsboro, ND, and Beverly (Casey) Ryan, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Suzanne (Jerrod) Brown, Liz (Luke) Rasmussen, Tommy (Kristy) McInnes, Chris (Amanda) Ryan, Mike (Tricia) Ryan, Catherine (Steve) Webb, Johnny (Jessica) Ryan; great-grandchildren, Alex Brown, Jack Rasmussen, Logan Ryan, Will Rasmussen, Sophia Ryan, Adeline Rasmussen, Annabelle Ryan, Lincoln Ryan, Blake Ryan, Finnegan Ryan, Ruby Webb, and Oliver Ryan.
Arlene dearly loved her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. They always brought smiles to her, even near the end of her life.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Forrest and Reuben, her husband, Rudy, and her special friend, Ted Freeman.
Memorials may be given to the Altru Cancer Center or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
