Ardia Johnson, 89, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Ardia Janice Gloria Berg was born to John A.Berg and Agnes (Nelson) Berg on March 10, 1931 at Oslo, Minnesota. She attended school at Alvarado, Minnesota from 1937-1947. She moved with her family to Grand Forks and attended Grand Forks Central High School from 1947-1949. Ardia was employed by the Grand Forks Credit Bureau from June, 1949 until December, 1960. On May 1st, 1959, Ardia was united in marriage to Ronald Leroy Johnson at United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks for 62 years.
Ron and Ardia raised Diane, Sheila, and Mark and were very active in their lives. She enjoyed annual camping vacations with her family to many amusement parks. Ardia was a picture lady for West Elementary School. She would teach an art lesson as a volunteer at school. Ardia loved to bake and entertain family and friends. She played whist card games on Friday nights with neighbors. She loved to spend time on Lake Ida with her daughter Sheila and family.
Ardia loved to read. She also loved to sew. She made quilts for family members and their children for keepsakes. Ardia would also sew outfits for her own children to wear such as dresses for Sunday church. Ardia loved to shop and go out to eat. She loved to visit quilt shops and get ideas for future projects. Ardia enjoyed attending Women of Faith activities in the cities with her daughters and friends. Ardia was a very giving person who was willing to give of herself and her time to those who needed her.
She was an active member at United Lutheran Church for 63 years. She was an avid volunteer for many church functions including making and serving food for funerals and weddings, was active in Friday Fellowship activities and sang in the Cathedral Choir.
She taught hobby ceramics in her home for 35 years from 1962-1997. She loved art and could play the organ. She was involved with Cranberry Goose Boutique and Prairie Christmas for many years putting these events on for the public.
Ardia is survived by her husband, Ronald Johnson, Grand Forks; her 3 children, Diane (Earl) Woolsey, of Grand Forks, Sheila (Greg) Anderson, of Alexandria, MN, and Mark (Corinne) Johnson, of Grand Forks.
Four grandchildren, Tyler Woolsey, Kaden Woolsey, Landon Anderson, and Megan (Dan) Essig; two great-grandchildren Isla, and Emmett Essig.; a sister, Jane Johnson, Grand Forks, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother in law Keith Johnson, her nephew Brad Johnson.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church. Masks will be required, and seating will be socially distanced. The service will be available on livestream on the United Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are preferred to United Lutheran Church.
