Allan W. Meisner, 95, Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Allan was born August 14, 1923 in Stillwater, MN, the son of Allan and Laura (Balfanz) Meisner. He was raised in Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1941. Allan attended St. Olaf College before entering the U.S. Navy. He served as a pilot based out of Corpus Christie, TX during WWII. Following his war service, Allan moved to the Minneapolis, MN area to work for Armour Meats. He later moved to Grand Forks where he was co-owner and manager of the Golden Hour restaurant.
Allan returned to military service as a flight instructor based out of Pensacola, FL during the Korean Conflict. Upon the completion of his service, he returned to Grand Forks where he owned and operated the Golden Hour until his retirement in 1978. Allan also owned and operated real estate property in Grand Forks.
Allan was inducted into the North Dakota Food and Lodging Hall of Fame in 1971. He also enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.
Allan married Joanne Fairweather on May 2, 1954 in Grand Forks. She survives along with their children, Allan Meisner, Minneapolis, Cathy (Engen) Eckmann, Bismarck, ND, Bruce Meisner, Grand Forks, Lori (Terry) Sannes, Grand Forks, Jon (Char) Meisner, Zimmerman, MN; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Roger Meisner, Afton, MN, Wayne (Karen) Meisner, Rochester, MN and Marilyn (Hugh) Madson, Oak Park Heights, MN.
Allan was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald; and his daughter-in-law, JoAnn Meisner.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
