Alice Marie Keller passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 96, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Alice Marie Happe was born on July 4th, 1928 in Webster, SD, to C. Grant and Anne (Nelson) Happe. She attended school in Webster and had one older sister, Dorothy. As a child, Alice helped at Happe's Café, the family business.
Alice graduated from Webster High School in 1946. Following her graduation, she attended University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. While enrolled at USD, she cheered on the Coyotes as a cheerleader and later as the cheer team captain. She graduated from USD in 1950 with a degree in teaching with an emphasis on home economics. Alice began her teaching career in country school and later taught in middle and high schools. She taught in multiple cities, including Vermillion, SD, Fargo, ND and Tulsa, OK. In 1950, Alice married James R. Delaney. To this union, three children were born: Kent, David, and Lori. In 1973, Alice found love once again and was united in marriage to Leigh W. Keller. Overnight, she then added five children to her family: Steven, Michael, Thomas, James, and John Keller.
Alice lived much of her later life in sunny Arizona, which is where she and Leigh moved in 1986 to enjoy their retirement. It was there that Alice found her church family. She could often be found at church, faithfully attending and volunteering at Shepherd of the Desert Church in Sun City. In 2015, when time began to rob Alice of her memory, she continued to live well in her home with the help of Lisa, Robert, and Carol. In July of 2022, she moved to Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks. Then, in February 2025 to Valley Senior Living where she completed her journey. She received wonderful and loving care from many beautiful souls at both venues.
Alice’s interests and hobbies varied greatly. She enjoyed playing golf, swimming, and taking her beloved dogs for their daily walks. Alice was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, ensuring that no birthdays, graduations, marriages or anniversaries were ever missed. She was also a talented musician who played piano by ear, sang with a choir, often a solo piece, and she particularly enjoyed ringing bells. Even in memory care, many people enjoyed her beautiful voice.
Alice is survived by her children: Kent (Julie) and David (Annette) Delaney; Lori Bommersbach; Steven (Susan) Keller; Michael (Paula) Keller; James and John Keller; and daughter-in-law, Deb Keller.
Her grandchildren include Beth (Bobby) Gomez; Katy (Stephen) Lewis; Julie (Stephen) Lindholm; Stacy (Chauncey) Haley; Matthew (Jen), Luke, Noah, and Jessica Keller; Rachel (Greg) Brothers; Michael, Matthew, and Megan Delaney; and Dalton and Dillon Bommersbach.
