Alice Mae (Nichols) Holman, 90, of Grand Forks went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024 surrounded by her loving children.

Alice was born June 27, 1933 in White Hall, Illinois on the family farm. She attended the country school, Golden Era, and graduated high school in White Hall. Alice attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a degree in Health Education and a minor in Sociology.

In the fall of 1956, she met a fellow while volunteering at the YMCA coffee shop. He asked her for help with his Christmas shopping. That fellow was Albert Holman. They were engaged on St. Patrick’s Day 1957 and married November 23, 1957 in Roodhouse, IL. Together, they enjoyed 56 wonderful years before Al passed away in 2013.

Alice was a wonderful homemaker to their two children—Marcus and Lora. After the kids entered middle school, she managed the GF Telco Credit Union in the basement of their home for 7 years. Following that she worked at Montgomery Ward before its closing and Firestone Tire Store as a bookkeeper before her retirement in 1991.

Alice was an active member of River Heights Lutheran Church. She was known for her love of crosswords, UND Basketball, cards, her grandchildren, beautiful nails and hair. Alice (and Al) loved to travel—together they went to 20 countries and all 50 states.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Marc (Michelle) Holman; daughter, Lora (Lowell) Machart; brothers, Bob (Karen) Nichols and Bill (Kay) Nichols; cousin, Boyd Wermedahl; cherished grandchildren, Ryan Holman, Chelsi (Mike) Martian, Kayla (Luke) Grittner, Lynsi Machart, and Abbi (Nate) Dunham; great-grandchildren, Harper and Peyton Martian and Abe Grittner along with several nieces and nephews and special friend, Dave Odegaard.

She was preceded by her husband, her parents, her in laws, brothers Gene, Dale, and Wayne, sisters Anita and Doris along with sister-in-laws Edna and Virginia and brother-in-laws Lloyd and John.

The family would like to thank the wonderful Altru doctors and nurses, Ethos Hospice team, and the loving Edgewood staff for the amazing care they provided to our Mom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to River Heights Lutheran Church and Thoughts of Faith.

Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2024 from 10:00-11:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am at River Heights Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Burial will be in Mayville, ND.
