 Alfred W. Bareksten, 91, Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, November 21, 2019 in Valley Senior Living on 42nd.

Alfred was born September 16, 1928 at St. Andrews Hospital in Bottineau, ND to Alfred and Olga (Ostli) Bareksten.

Alfred was raised on a farm near Overly and graduated from Lordsburg Township School after the 8th grade. Alfred’s mother passed in a flu epidemic when he was 5 years old and he was raised by his father.

Alfred met Eulalia Bickel – the love of his life- in Willow City, ND and they were married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Willow City on November 7, 1948. They recently celebrated 71 years together.

Al spent his entire life in service to agriculture as a farmer and local coop elevator manager including the communities of Kloten, Rock Lake and Devils Lake, ND as well as Thief River Falls, MN.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Eulalia; children, Nancy (Rick) Blake, Jim (Alinda) Bareksten, Catherine (Guy) Mitchell and Beverly (Del) Gage; grandchildren, Craig (Amy) Blake, David Blake, Corey (Bethany) Bareksten, Ross (Jennifer) Bareksten, Lance (Karri) Bareksten, Jesse (Kelly) Mitchell, Blair Mitchell, Aaron (Kristie) Mitchell, Cole Mitchell, Tracy (LeeAnn) Gage, Jami (Ryan Griggs) Gage, Katie (Mike Kortie) Gage; and 18 great grandchildren.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Olga; sisters, Mabel, Gladys, Martha and Agnes.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Valley Senior Living on 42nd, Grand Forks, for the excellent care given to Alfred.

A private family service will be held.
