Agnes Hagstrom, age 94, resident of Grand Forks, died on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Agnes “Aggie” Abrahamson was born March 2, 1930, to Einar Olafur & Helga (Gudmundson) Abrahamson in Akra, ND. She grew up on the family farm and learned the value of hard work. She attended elementary school at the Akra Country School and graduated from Cavalier High School in 1948 with honors. After graduation she pursued her nursing education at Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND, graduating as an RN in 1951.
Aggie married Merrill W. “Bud” Hagstrom on her birthday in 1952. They were blessed with two children: Dale and Merillyn. Family was important to Aggie and she made sure her children were raised in a loving family,
In 1957, Aggie and Bud purchased their newly built home which is where she was determined to continue living the rest of her life and was able to fulfill that wish! She kept an immaculate home, yard and flower garden.
Aggie loved the outdoors, fishing and golfing. She and Bud loved going to Lake of the Woods in their motor home and made many lifelong friends. They also enjoyed vacationing at their home in Arizona. Although Aggie traveled far and wide, her heart was always close to her childhood home and beautiful Icelandic State Park.
Always a caring person, Aggie worked at Deaconess Hospital, United Hospital and retired from UND Student Health as an RN. Even in retirement Aggie continued to take care of family and friends. She delivered meals on wheels for several years and was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church serving on the funeral committee and lefse rolling committee.
Bud passed away in1986 and Aggie was later lucky enough to find love again. She enjoyed many years of companionship with Art Huot before he passed away in 2016.
Aggie was an excellent cook and baker. She kept her neighbors and friends happily fed and honored on their birthdays with her delicious homemade angel food cake with lemon topping. Aggie was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and was famous for her very traditional Icelandic dessert called Vinarterta.
She always enjoyed visiting and especially enjoyed time spent with her sisters every year and crafting gifts for each of them.
