Anita B. Kinney, 84, formerly of Manvel, ND, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ. Anita Bernice Braaten was born October 14, 1923 in Grand Forks County, ND the daughter of Theodore and Alice (Wold) Braaten. She was raised, educated and graduated from high school in Manvel. She worked in a factory in Minneapolis, MN during WWII. Anita married Robert Kinney on April 1, 1945 in Grand Forks. They lived and farmed near Manvel until moving to Grand Forks in 2000. They later moved to Phoenix, AZ. Robert Kinney died July 24, 2002. Anita was a member of the Manvel American Legion Auxiliary for 52 years. She was also a member of the Manvel Homemakers and Manvel Women's Club. Survivors include son, Richard (Cyndy) Kinney, Grand Forks, ND; daughter, Peggy Kinney, Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Scott Lee, Rothsay, MN, Chris (Anne) Lee, St. Paul, MN and Ann (Jamie) Upton, Manvel, ND; great grandchildren, Justin Lee, Rothsay, MN, Elle and Claire Upton; sister-in-law, Betty Braaten, Manvel, ND and brother-in-law, Walter Orchard, Grand Forks, ND. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Sandra Kinney; granddaughter, Melanie Kinney; brother, Kenneth Braaten and sister, Mae Orchard.
