Charles Bundlie

Charles Kermott Bundlie, the son of F.C. and Sedona (Kermott) Bundlie was born in Grand Forks on February 2, 1930. Chuck attended school in Grand Forks and is a graduate of Grand Forks Central High School. He attended the University Of North Dakota. Chuck and Margaret Rockwell were united in marriage on October 23, 1951 in Grand Forks. He served in the US Air Force from July 14, 1951 until June 6, 1955 and was stationed in California, and Anchorage, Alaska. Upon discharge from military service, they returned to Grand Forks where they made their home except for 3 years when they lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Chuck started broadcasting at age 14 for KILO Radio in Grand Forks. He was employed briefly by KROX Radio in Crookston in the early 1950's. Chuck began employment for KNOX Radio in Grand Forks, serving as news director for portions of the 1950's and 1960's, sometimes while he also worked in television. Chuck was the first to anchor a Grand Forks based TV newscast in December 1955 for the old KNOX-TV. During a part of the early 1960's Bundlie was a minority partner in and the Winnipeg-based liaison for a Pembina, North Dakota based border TV station, KCND which was then in its infancy. It is know Winnipeg's CKND. Bundlie retired as WDAZ-TV's news director in late January, 1992 after helping Channel 8 sing on the air in the Grand Forks and Devils Lake area in 1967 as its sole news correspondent. The station's news broadcasts originated at Fargo's WDAY-TV. By fall of 1967 with newscasts coming out of Grand Forks, Bundlie served as WDAZ's first Grand Forks based news director and anchor in addition to reporter and photographer. Bundlie ended his role as WDAZ's primary news anchor in early 1983 while continuing as Channel 8's news director. After retirement, Bundlie served for several years as executive director of the North Dakota Broadcasters Association. Chuck is survived by his wife, Margaret "Rock" Bundlie, Grand Forks; beloved dog "Toby"; many cousins and longtime close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Bundlie, and a sister, Lois Bundlie. Services: will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 in Federated Church, 2122 17th Ave. South, Grand Forks. Visitation: will be for the hour before the service in the church. Interment: will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials: are preferred to the Circle of Friends Humane Society, Grand Forks.
