Daniel Hougum

Daniel J. Hougum, 71, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at home. Daniel Jon Hougum was born to Roy and Bernice Hougum on July 6, 1936 at Marshfield, Wisconsin. Daniel graduated in 1961, from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. He served several parishes including Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township, Minnesota, Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisher, Minnesota, and St. Paul's Lutheran at Euclid, Minnesota. He was a chaplain for many years at Valley Memorial Home in Grand Forks, and also provided protestant services for residents at St. Anne's Guest Home in Grand Forks. He was later employed by Simplot. After retirement he served as pastor of Lom Lutheran Church, Rural Niagara, North Dakota, and West Union Lutheran at Rural Aneta, North Dakota. Daniel loved gardening and sharing garden produce and flowers with friends, neighbors, and family. He is survived by his wife, Bernitta, Grand Forks; his children, Mimi (Mark) Hapka, Rachel (Sean) Duggan, Pete (Jan) Hougum, Andy (Wanda) Hougum, and Rhoda Knudsvig; grandchildren, Mickey, Jordan, Bradley, Faith, Lawrence, Lydia, Christina, Caitlin, Willy, Allie, Sarah, Jessica, Tylar, Tara, Taylor, Briana, Jacob; one great-granddaughter, Violet; a brother, David Hougum, Vesper, Wisconsin; special friend, Kenneth Eisbrener. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services: will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, January 18, 2008 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
