Darin Marick

June 3, 1968 — January 17, 2008

Darin Lynn Marick of Larimore, ND, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 17th 2008 at the age of 39. Darin was born on June 3, 1968 in Moorhead, Minnesota. He completed his elementary education in Mapleton ND and continued on through high school in West Fargo ND, graduating in 1986. In May of 1987, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was initially trained to work on the Minuteman Missile system and then was retrained as an aircraft mechanic. He had four assignments over his Air Force career beginning in Cannon Air Force Base (AFB), New Mexico, then Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, from there he moved to Altus AFB, Oklahoma culminating with his assignment to Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota. He also was deployed to Saudi Arabia and also Diego Garcia in support of the Gulf War and numerous wartime operations. Darin was an avid mechanic; he loved fixing everything and anything he could get his hands on. He took great joy in working on cars. Darin rebuilt numerous engines and entire cars over his shortened lifetime. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, woodworking and telling jokes. Darin also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time in the outdoors. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. It may have been spending quality time alone with his wife or an entire family filled house on Christmas Eve. He was the master of the creatively filling eggs for an Easter Egg hunt for his nieces and nephews or developing new and interesting ways to wrap Christmas gifts. Darin drew his greatest joy in helping those around him with anything and everything that needed to be done. It was not unusual for him to show up at your house, see something that needed repaired and fixing it without being asked. A simple "Thank You" was all that he would ever accept for his charity. Darin is survived by his loving wife Katherine, and a son, Jonothan, and his step-son Phillip; his parents, Louis and Constance Marick, his twin sister Dawn (Darwin) Garman and his younger sister Danita Marick and two older sisters Coni Le (Lloyd) Teske and Lori (Brian) Rudolph. He is survived by his grandfather, Irving Softing, and 11 nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles. Services: will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Grand Forks Air Force Base Sunflower Chapel. Visitation: will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
