Eleanore McEnroe

Eleanore Ruth McEnroe, 89, of Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Eleanore was born February 21, 1918 in Drayton, ND, the daughter of Nell and Robert J. Moore. She attended school in Drayton until she moved to Grand Forks with her family in 1934 where she graduated from Central High School. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1939. The following year while working she took air pilot training and was one of the first women in North Dakota to obtain a pilot license. She then went to Chicago where she took a merchandising course at Marshall Fields later working there and at Dayton's in Minneapolis. In 1942 she married Quintus Nelson in Jacksonville, FL. Their son Jim was born in 1944. Major Nelson, a Marine fighter pilot, was killed in action in the South Pacific in 1945. After the World War II she resided in Riverside, CA with her parents. She returned to Grand Forks in 1950 where she did substitute teaching in public schools. In 1953, she and John McEnroe were married and lived in Grand Forks. Their son John was born in 1955. Eleanore was and active member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the local Chapter of the PEO sisterhood. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She was also one of the first women realtors in Grand Forks and was a realtor for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf and was devoted to her family and friends who were an important part of her life. She volunteered for many things during her years in Grand Forks. San Clemente, CA Eleanore was preceded in death by: Her husband John McEnroe in 1989; brothers, A.C. (Clair) Moore, Harry Moore and Charles Moore; and her parents.
