Eugene R. Niemeyer, a Naperville resident and formerly of Grand Forks, N.D. died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. Gene was born July 5, 1941 in Grand Forks, ND. He is survived by his wife Elaine (nee Storstad) his son Jeffrey, a brother Ronald of Grand Forks, several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Pearl Niemeyer and a brother Jerry. He grew up in Grand Forks and was a graduate of Grand Forks Central High School. He was employed by the Great Northern Railway (now the Burlington Northern) for 3 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1965. After his discharge from the Army he attended the University of North Dakota graduating in 1969 with a degree in Business and Public Administration. He began employment with Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in July 1969 and retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for 20 years. An avid hobbyist he modeled GNRR trains. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a WWII history buff.
