Herman J. Leinhauser, 75, Grand Forks, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at home with his loving daughters at his side. Herman Jacob Leinhauser was born to Herman Jacob Leinhauser, Sr., and Elizabeth Rice on January 17, 1933 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from West Catholic High School for Boys, at Darby, Pennsylvania. He served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. Herman Leinhauser and Constance "Connie" Allard met in Darby, Pennsylvania and were married on July 19, 1958. He started out his career in 1961 with the Grand Forks City as a public works helper, then became the Assistant Sanitation Foreman. He retired on January 17, 1996 after 35 years of service. Herman had served as Post Commander of VFW Post #1874, and as a District 8 Commander. He was a member of DAV Chapter 2, Grand Forks, American Veterans of Korea and Vietnam (AMVETS), American Legion and a member of Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 10. Herman was a loyal, honest, respectable, sincere, and loving man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Herman is survived by his daughters, Mary Brant, Grand Forks, Jeanne (Brian) Kummet, Grand Forks AFB, Georgia Sue (Joe) Bortolussi, Las Vegas, Nevada, Rita Leinhauser Edwards (Lt. Col. Joseph E. Edwards III), Williamsburg, Virginia, Karen Leinhauser, St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Justin Monley, Michelle Leinhauser Edwards, Brittany Lombardo, Ashley Hayes, Destiny Kummet, Alexandra Bailly; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Reigh Monley; brothers and sisters, Betty Schultz, Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, Catherine "Cass" (Bob) Carlson, Florida, Joseph (Anna) Leinhauser, West Grove, Pennsylvania, George Leinhauser, Aston, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman, Sr., and Elizabeth Leinhauser, Connie Allard Leinhauser; an infant daughter, Alice Denise Elizabeth Leinhauser; sister-in-law, Anna Leinhauser, and a grandson, Travis Leinhauser. Herman was very dedicated to his family. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and family in Pennsylvania. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 520 5th Ave North, Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Thursday, July 10, 2008 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and for the hour prior to the mass in the church. Interment: Veterans Garden of Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. Military Honors: will be provided by Grand Forks VFW Post #1874, DAV Chapter #2, and American Legion Post #6.
