Inez (Hamre) Pettus died July 1, 2008 in Tucson, AZ. She was born on her family farm in Northwood, ND June 1, 1921 to Ragna (Buan) Hamre and Edwin Hamre. Inez grew up and attended Northwood area schools. She received her teaching certificate from Mayville State College and taught in one room country schools in rural Northwood. When Inez was 21 years old, she moved to Spokane, W A where she met her husband of 63 years, Tom Pettus. Tom and Inez received their undergraduate degrees in education in Silver City, NM. They taught in Bakersfield, CA for 25 years where they raised their two children, Susan and Bob. She received her Master's degree in blind and partially sighted education from San Francisco State University. Tom and Inez "retired" in Pinetop, AZ where she taught 3rd grade at the White River Indian Reservation. They moved to Tucson, AZ to enjoy warmer weather and the company of good friends at Far Horizons East Park. Inez enthusiastically embraced her many activities including crocheting, baking, entertaining, and playing cards. A large part of her life was her dedication and devotion to the Lutheran church. She is survived by her devoted husband Tom; daughter Susan (Marvin) Larson of Gilby, ND; son Bob Pettus of Mesa, AZ; three granddaughters, Michelle (John) Korsmo, Alicia (Erik) Sonju, Mary (Hobie) Troxell; two great-granddaughters Annie Sonju and Matilda Korsmo; sister-in-law, Vivian (Roger) Hamre, and her special niece, Laurie Hamre. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Edward and Roger .
