John T. "Jack" Cummins, 73, Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks. John Thomas Cummins was born July 18, 1934 in Bergen, ND the son of James J. and Louise M. (Johnston) Cummins. He was raised in Portal, ND and graduated from high school there. He attended Minot State Teachers College then graduated from NDSU with degrees in Chemistry and Education. He worked for Dow Chemical Co of Midland, MI. Jack taught school in Rugby, ND then returned to Minot before coming to UND. He worked for the ND highway Department in Devils Lake ND and assisted in the building of the highway rest area at Crary, ND. He worked in the laboratory of the Department of Agriculture near Mandan, ND Jack was involved in a terrible automobile accident. He recovered at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Grand Forks, then returned to Mandan to work at an agriculture research laboratory. Jack returned to college in Bismarck, ND and NDSU where he also worked at an animal laboratory. He moved to Grand Forks and worked for Haynes Chemical Co of East Grand Forks, MN. He later worked as a substitute teacher in East Grand Forks schools and in Grand Forks at West Elementary, Lewis and Clark, South, Jr. and Central High. Jack was admired for his persistence and courage in facing the many challenges in his life. He is survived by his sister, Rose (Norman) Stahlecker of Oakes, ND.
