Kenneth was born August 27, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Sidney and Olga (Syverson) Tweten. Kenneth grew up on a farm near Reynolds, N.D. He married Carolyn Paulson in November of 1965. He served on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education from 1981 to 1988 and as president in 1986-87. He was a member of the Lutheran Social Services Board of North Dakota from 1975 to 1981 and served as president in 1979-81. His service in the legislature included a member of the House from 1959 to 1973 and the Senate from 1973 to 1977. He served on the board of United Hospital in Grand Forks from 1977 to 1995 and as chair in 1981 to 1983. He was president and operating manager of Flower Power Inc. from 1981 to 1985; member of the board of directors of First State Bank of Buxton from 1973 to 1985; president of St. Olaf Lutheran Church from 1950 to 1957; and president of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks in 1972. He was named North Dakota Outstanding Young Farmer in 1964 and has been a long-time supporter of Oak Grove High School in Fargo, Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks, Global Health Ministries and Concordia C-400. Kenneth was also a longtime member of the Grand Forks Lions and a supporter of UND Athletics-especially hockey. Kenneth married Carol Gronhovd on December 29, 1989 in Mayville, ND. She survives along with Kenneth's daughters, Karen Tweten, Madison, WI, Rachel (Robert) Luckow, New Prague, MN; step-children, Dr. Greg (Nancy) Bjerke, Fargo, ND, Maren (Casey) Chrismen, St. Cloud, MN, Kristin Bjerke-Gisvold, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Patrick Bjerke, Jeffrey Palmer, Dylan Wimperis, Katie Bjerke-Doeden, Britta Schroeder, Sydney Gisvold, Gunnar Gisvold, Haakon Gisvold, Jewel Luckow, Chloe Tweten, Lia Tweten and Caitlyn Luckow; great grandchildren, Taitian Palmer and Alex Schroeder: sisters, Marian (Adrian) Knudsvig, Buxton, ND, Erlys (Dell) Hedlund, Roseau, MN, Beryl (Dr. Ernest) Gilbertson, Fargo, ND: brother, Malcolm (June) Tweten, Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Clark Tufte, Moorhead, MN and a Special Friend, Daniel Gisvold, Fertile, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Harold and Obed and by a sister, Harriet.
