Mary V. "Dot" Lyons, 92, of Grand Forks, ND died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in Valley Eldercare Center of Grand Forks where she had lived since 2002. Mary Violet Bennett was born in Grand Forks, ND on May 6, 1915, the daughter of George and Minnie Bennett. She attended St. Michael's grade school and graduated from Central High School with Honors. Upon graduation she worked for the phone company and Lyons Auto Supply. At Lyons, she met James W. "Budd" Lyons. They were married October 10, 1941 in Seattle, Washington. They returned to Grand Forks a few years later. Mary was a woman of great faith and independence. At barely 100 pounds, she was a pillar of strength. She loved politics, playing the piano, sewing, flowers, gardening and walking outdoors. It was once commented that she "walked faster than she drove". But her main focus, her entire life, was her family. She was a devoted wife to Budd, and a dedicated mom and grandmother to Jim, John, Jani, Casey and Shawn. Mary had an incredible wit that we all enjoyed and will miss. Her stories will be told for years to come. Mary is survived by: Sons: Jim (Daisy) Lyons ? Grand Forks John (Sherry) Lyons ?
