Nancy Gardner

November 12, 1950 — March 8, 2008

Our beloved Nancy Jo Gardner, 57, passed away March 8, 2008 at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota after emergency air lift from Altru Hospital due to complications of a stroke. Nancy, a lifelong Grand Forks resident, was born November 12, 1950, to George and Alice Gardner at old St. Michael's Hospital, and baptized at Wesley United Methodist Church in Grand Forks. She attended Wilder Elementary, Central High School, and received her B.A. from the University of North Dakota (Fighting Sioux). Nancy had a 25 year career with Mack Farms in East Grand Forks, and then went on to the Grand Forks Public Library working in the reference department along with reviewing new books. Nancy loved and was devoted to her family and friends. Her passions and interests were many including: all dogs, books (a personal library of thousands), the arts, gardening, playing cribbage, and doing the New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle in its entirety. She was a world traveler visiting Australia, Central America and the Caribbean. Her most recent trip was with family to the Oregon Coast where she delighted in whale watching, lighthouse exploring, and beach combing. Yet, through all her travels, North Dakota and its Badlands remained first in her heart. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, both passing in February, 2008. Nancy is survived by her sister Sharon (Ralph) Block of Coldwater, MI; brother Terry (Donna) of Hackensack, MN; sister Vicki (Dale) of Ashland, OR; nephews and nieces, Randy, Barrie, Tarrie Ann, Scott, Stacy, and Debra Anne, and 8 grand nephews and nieces. She will be missed by special friends: A., Elizabeth, Jean, Carol, Sharon, Linda, Judy and Carol, and the staff and friends at the Grand Forks Public Library. The family is grateful to the caregivers at Altru Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, along with our deep gratitude to Amundson Funeral Home, and Pastor John Rieth. Services are to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March, 15, 2008 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, North Dakota with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), 2508 South Carloyn Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57106.
