Paul B Ydstie, 90, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Hillsboro, ND died Monday, December 17, 2007 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Paul was born May 7, 1917 in Hillsboro, ND the son of Nelius and Nikolina (Eidum) Ydstie. He was raised and educated in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1936. He briefly worked at the courthouse in Hillsboro. Paul served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 until 1945. He returned to Hillsboro to work as an apprentice electrician for Erwin Lane. He married Marilyn Malley on August 28, 1956 in Webster, South Dakota. Paul worked as an Electrical Journeyman for Modern Electric of Fargo, ND. They moved to Grand Forks in 1970. Paul continued to work for Modern Electric until his retirement in 1981. Paul loved gardening and spending time on the family farm near Hillsboro. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn, Grand Forks; daughter, Linda (John) Durkin, Grand Forks; son, Brad (Julie) Ydstie, Hillsboro, ND; grandchildren, Tera Ydstie, Brendan Ydstie, Megan Durkin and John Durkin; sister Selma Leum, Hillsboro, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alice and Gladys; brothers, Alvin and Norman.
