Reed Siewert

September 11, 1918 — February 18, 2008

Reed never met a stranger?. The consummate salesman, Reed Siewert was happiest when he was striking up a conversation with the closest person within earshot. Born September 11, 1918 in rural Grand Forks, he was one of six siblings born to Adolph and Minnie Siewert. He worked on the family farm and later went to farm on his own for several years before moving to Grand Forks and starting his sales career. Reed was married to Edith Lund in 1955 in Fargo, North Dakota. Reed sold cars and trucks for Hansen Ford and later Rydell Chevrolet for almost 30 years and later in retirement, worked part-time as a Security Guard at First National Bank in Grand Forks. An avid fisherman and hunter, he once bagged a large moose up in Canada. He also loved to garden and paid particular attention to the state of his tomato plants. He always had a story to tell and a jar of choke cherry jelly to gift to those he had shared a good conversation with. A member of the First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, he served as a Deacon and an Elder, and was a member of I.O.O.F and the Elks Lodge. Reed is survived by his wife, Edith of Grand Forks; his daughters, Vicki Lund and Connie Siewert of Atlanta; sister, Lorraine Kroocmo of East Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by brothers Ralph, Roy, Lloyd and a sister Pearl. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Mark Berntson for the attentive care he gave Reed over the years.
